Now we are 10 months later: I have lost 45 lbs and completely reshaped my body! I feel and look better, I have more flexibility, more mobility, more balance, more endurance, and I even discovered muscles in my body that I never knew existed before!
I was never much of a sports person. I kept telling myself I had too much going on with work or personal life to invest time in it, and was always convinced I wasn’t fit enough anyway. So, for me, it all started after I moved from France to LA, which was a huge change, and I was not careful enough. Until I decided to go see a doctor and she sort of kicked my butt, saying my health was at risk and I needed to do something about it. So, after that wake‐up call, I started being more careful about my diet, and after a few weeks, I was told I should add some exercise. I heard about the FitClub classes at Cedars, and went to check it out.
When I first took a peek in the room, I freaked out! I told the coach “this is too intense, I don’t know if I can do this”. And his answer was simple: “the best way to know is for you to come back tomorrow with an outfit and try it out”! And so I did.
My first few classes were hard. I couldn’t always keep up with the rest of the group, I was stiff, short of breath, and had absolutely no strength. But I kept going, and tried as hard as I could, with the help, advice and encouragements of the different coaches and the other athletes there. I think they kept me going after all. I remember Sam teaching me deck squats and saying “you’ll get there, no worries, it takes time”, Derek always coming up with intriguing sayings, fun facts and ways of encouraging us, Matt making us always push our limits a little more each time, Lauren trying to teach me how to jump rope (and still trying, but working on it!).
At first, I went to 2 classes a week, and then I did 3, then 4. Making progress along the way. I really started to like this class, the environment they created, the group of athletes, suffering together for an hour but always with a smile and cheering each other up. Different coaches every day, different work outs as well, so you could never get bored and would always learn new movements to challenge yourself. Also, whether you’ve been an athlete for years or just a few days, you can always go at your own pace, and there are no mandatory competitions (that can sometimes be annoying…), but only a few friendly ones here and there, just to see how much progress you’ve made, and those are really fun!!!

I feel and look better, I have more flexibility, more mobility, more balance, more endurance, and I even discovered muscles in my body that I never knew existed before! So much change, that Lorraine, one of the other athletes, found a nickname for me: Morph. And, it was not too long ago that Kai told me after class “remember when you came the first time and were completely freaked out, and now, look at you killing it!”
My entire lifestyle has changed to the point that I don’t feel good if I can’t make it to class once in awhile… And, on top of the FitClub, I have recently started to go to CrossFit, as a way of building up more strength even, discover new things, and set myself new goals even higher. There I learned how to use rowing machines with Jason and Jimmy, and barbells with Jade and Kai. That makes it 4 to 6 classes a week altogether, and I love it!!! Some people had told me it can become addictive, they were right. Thanks to Amber for suggesting I tried!
Now I am about to leave LA for work reasons. And of the few things that I really enjoyed here, CrossFit/FitClub with this gym will definitely be one thing I’ll miss the most. I’ll miss the classes, and the people, and Amber’s little announcements at the beginning of each class ;‐) This really was a great experience for me! So, I want to end this little “Hollywood story” of mine by a huge thank you to all the members of the gym, coaches, management and athletes that I met throughout the year! You have all helped me so much get back to a healthier and happier lifestyle!
Keep up the good work! And hope to see you again soon! Sarah
